The Volunteer Program

In these photos, volunteers dig a portion of the site and push soil through screens to recover artifacts. This represented a rare opportunity to participate in an archaeological data recovery project at a significant site.

The Army Corps conducted an extensive public information program for the project, including site tours, presentations, and volunteer excavations. Over 600 people toured the site during the field investigations. A total of 153 students and adults participated in the volunteer excavation program, which was conducted in October and November of 2002.
